Check out these gorgeous photos from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre's show "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge", adapted from the beautiful and moving picture book by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas. The show will be running on 30th March-12th April in Perth, Western Australia. Check out this awesome Animal head costume created by our new UNIMA Oz member Chris Lane @spooner.lane! Chris showed us his creation yesterday at our Maker's Social and we enjoyed hearing how he made the mechanisms for the eyes and mouth. The blinking eye mech is ingeniously connected to a chain hanging from Animal's collar, which is activated when you pull on the chain! Chris told us he was a puppeteer for the children's television show 'Five Minutes More' and puppeteer/puppet maker for The Red Tree (based on the book by Shaun Tan) for Out of the Box Children's Festival. Thanks to everyone, including our new members, who came along to our Maker’s Social - our first UNIMA Oz event for 2024! Hurray! We had echidnas, whales, worms, sandwiches, clouds, worlds within worlds (exploring one’s internal weather) and lots of umbrellas! Thank you to our members for sharing their puppets and practice with us. In this session we discussed how we can create videos for World Puppetry Day (due Feb 18) and the Silver Linings Film Festival (due July 20) as both are themed, “The Climate”. New member Chris Lane @spooner.lane showed us his amazing ‘Animal’ head costume - complete with blinking eyes and moving mouth! He also showed us one of the puppets he performed for the children’s TV show, ‘Five Minutes More’. Izzy Von Lichten @chickmacgyver and Katherine Hannaford @misskhannaford showed us their awesome puppet sandwiches they made over the summer, as well as some adorable mechanical Grogu (Baby Yoda) dolls which they turned into mechanical puppets, thanks to 3D printed patterns and instructions from @liveactionpuppets!Alex Joy @oneorangesockproductions worked on an echidna hand puppet (covered in multiple cable ties!) which will interact with a felted whale puppet. Matt Bottos @shadowplay.creations showed us a worm sculpture that he made to go with a poem he wrote about Climate Change.
