The Lorrie Gardner UNIMA Australia Biennial Scholarship application deadline has been extended until September 30, 2020. There is still up to $2500 AUD up for grabs, and you can see more info at

The decision on who will receive the Scholarship will be made by October 14 and applicants will be notified as soon as possible after this date.
The successful Scholarship project can commence no earlier than October 19, 2020 and no later than December 31, 2021.
We acknowledge that there may be postponed or cancelled events due to national and international restrictions on gatherings and travel.

Happy World Puppetry Day! On 21st March 2020, @Unima Australia organised online gatherings via Zoom at 3 different times (to accommodate for different time zones) with members around Australia and with puppeteers overseas. We had people participating from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, Italy, the UK and China! People brought puppets and toilet rolls (for those who had them - toilet rolls are still sold out in many Australian supermarkets) and we had lots of fun introducing our puppets and playing a game of 'pass the loo roll' around our screens! We also greeted each other with the collective message from UNIMA Internationale:

Jingjing Chen from Happy Box Theater in Guangzhou, China, shared "I want to bring all of you good news is that: the restaurant, national park, public Library and Museum in our city Guangzhou China is starting to open again....People are coming back for shopping and having fun, Even we still need to wear mask. It's getting control now in China after all those struggle. So we believe it will be under control in your country soon and all disaster will pass away.".
Their theatre is still closed (for the past 2 months) and we hope they will re-open again soon. She said that theatres are the last places to re-open for a city, so perhaps it will happen in a month. We really hope so!

Check out this project from UNIMA Internationale for World Puppetry Day - Let us sing and animate PEACE!
This year, under the sponsorship of UNESCO, UNIMA joins the many organisations which defend PEACE to celebrate the upcoming 20th UNESCO World Day of Peace (September 21st).
A special event will take place on September 19th in Tolosa, Spain, with the participation of international choirs who will perform an original composition written by Josu Elberdin for the occasion. Puppetry will be presented to give, with freedom, a visual dimension to these moments sung together.
UNIMA proposes World Puppetry Day on March 21, 2020 to be a first step in this celebration. UNIMA proposes two ways to participate:

Check out 'The Last Numbat' by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre at the annual South Perth Sounds Concert in Western Australia on Saturday 22 Feb!
'The Last Numbat' is a new large-scale, interactive, sculptural installation. Suspended from a five-metre high truss, the large-scale marionette is controlled by ropes on two sides by up to twelve people at a time, who together bring the puppet to life. Chosen audience members will help bring the large-scale story to life by interacting with the puppet with props and through retelling of a story. This work explores concepts of connection, community, communication and teamwork. Four performers will manipulate this puppet, engage festival goers, offer guidance to participants, and work together as a team.
